Charles Fredrick Horan of Lowell, Michigan, passed away peacefully at 11:00 pm on Monday, July 7th, 2025, at the age of 69.
Charles, or Chuck as he preferred, was born on February 22nd, 1956, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He attended Rogers High School and later worked as a mechanic and service manager for Prestige Imports in Grand Rapids, Michigan for many years. Later in life, he used his gifts for making connections with people, working behind the bar at Century Post Pub in Lowell, or running auto parts for O’Reilly’s in Grand Rapids.
Throughout his life, Chuck loved helping people, whether it was running over to assist someone with a car repair, helping with a home project, or bringing over some homemade treats. Chuck showed his caring through acts of service throughout the community.
Always having a soft spot for animals, Chuck usually kept a pet or two that would inevitably need a home, and of course, spoiled them with special cooked meals when he was not cooking for other people, as he loved to often do.
On the rare occasions that Chuck wasn’t busy working or taking care of a project, he loved to be on a boat or a riverbank with friends and a fishing pole in his hand, always offering to share a cold beer and conversation with anyone he was with.
Chuck is survived by his three sons: Marshall, Zach (Carly), and Matt, his sisters Brenda and Jodi, grandchildren Zack, Hannah, and Brianna, and several great-grandchildren.
The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life later in the summer or early autumn at a time yet to be determined, as was Chuck’s wishes. In the meantime, please share your favorite memories and stories about Chuck here.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to make a donation in his name to your local animal shelter or animal rescue organization, as this was a cause that was always dear to Chuck.
Chuck had a gift for connecting with people and helping them connect with each other, so please share stories, pictures, and memories of your favorite moments with Chuck so that we may all continue to connect with each other and continue his legacy.
