James Grant Leonard, 81, of Howard, Kansas, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.

James was born on April 8, 1944, in Howard, Kansas, to James Willis Leonard and Sylvia Lucile Irene Leonard. He grew up with a love of sports, playing basketball in high school, and remained a devoted Kansas Jayhawks fan throughout his life. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially fishing, which brought him peace and joy. James was known for his sense of humor and was a true jokester, always bringing laughter to those around him. He also had a deep love of music.

A devoted family man with a big heart, James cared deeply for his loved ones and cherished the time he spent with family and friends. He will be remembered for his warm presence, generosity, and the joy he brought to all who knew him.

He is survived by his children Jeffery Leonard (Misty), Gina Leonard, and Anuwat Ponlamuangsri (Tami); his grandchildren Jordan Leonard (Courtney), Vanessa Leonard, Jeffery Leonard, Barry Leonard, Thailyse Magoon, Vincent Magoon, Dominic Magoon, Nick Ponlamuangsri, James Ponlamuangsri, Angelina Ponlamuangsri, and Austin Ponlamuangsri; and his sister Susan Larkin.

He was preceded in death by his wife Anong, his son-in-law Dominic Magoon, and his sisters Sylvia and Genevieve.

The family extends their gratitude to hospice for their support and care.
