Dennis P. Horan, 75 of Worcester, passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at UMass Memorial Medical Center after an illness.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Lynne (Thurston) Horan; his son, Devin Horan of Bologna, Italy; his daughter, Kayte Benedict and her husband Pete of Louisville, CO.; two stepsons, Michael O'Neill and his wife Shalyn of Charlton, and Jason O'Neill of Auburn; seven grandchildren, Bryce and Gwen Benedict ("the monkeys"), and Jolena, Brayden, Jaxon, Channing, and Colin O'Neill. He also leaves his brother, John Horan Jr. and his wife Maureen of Sudbury; four sisters, Mary Wilson and her husband James of Osterville, Catherine Bell Kempthorne and her husband Peter of Ipswich, Eileen LeStrange and her husband Paul of Worcester, and Nancy Adams and her husband Kevin of Plymouth; many nieces and nephews who he loved very much; and his beloved dog, Scout.

He was born in Worcester, son of the late John and Barbara Horan. After graduating from Burncoat High School, Dennis enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served honorably for two years in Vietnam, completing combat duty during the war. His time in the Marines shaped the rest of his life, instilling in him a deep sense of loyalty, perseverance, and camaraderie. He was proud to have served his country and carried that pride with him always.

Dennis worked for many years as a project manager in roadway construction, overseeing major paving contracts across Massachusetts, including highway and airport projects, and was notably the head of paving operations for the Ted Williams Tunnel. He retired in 2012.

A man of few words but with countless friends, Dennis was known for his loyalty, humor, and quiet strength. He enjoyed golfing with friends, often at Wachusett Country Club - where he proudly made a hole-in-one. He also loved kayaking on Indian Lake and traveling with his wife Lynne. Together they especially enjoyed trips to California and Italy to spend time with their children and grandchildren. Other favorite destinations included Hilton Head for an annual golf trip, and a yearly trip to Aruba. He cherished gathering with family and friends over a good meal and a glass of wine. Dennis's warmth and generosity will be forever missed and celebrated by the many people who loved him.

There will be a memorial service Thursday, October 2, at Noon in the Ellen Rogers Kennedy Memorial Chapel in Rural Cemetery, 180 Grove St., Worcester. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
