CUYAHOGA FALLS - Charles E. Hoskinson, 79, went home to be with the Lord on November 22, 2023.
Born in Akron, Charles was the son of Howard and Irene Hoskinson, who have preceded him in death. He is survived by his sister, Cheryl Ann Hoskinson, four children, and eight grandchildren.
Charles, known to family and friends as "Chuck," lived in Stow and graduated from Stow High School in 1963. He was a talented athlete who enjoyed running for Stow High School's track team, setting a school record at the state meet, running in the 880-yard, (1/2 mile), with a time of 2:00:0. After graduating, Charles attended Kent State University for one year until he decided to enlist in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed on the USS Mississinewa, serving his country during Vietnam as a (MM2) ship's mechanic, earning an honorable discharge in 1972. He went on to attend and graduate from Malone University, earning a degree in education soon after. He was employed with the Canton Local School District as a grade schoolteacher over a span of 30 years at Amos McDaniel Elementary School.
Later in life, Charles, fondly known as "Charlie," resided in St. Augustine, FL, for 13 years before moving back to Ohio to be closer to family while under the loving care of his daughter, Cheryl, son-in-law, Mike, and with the help of his grandsons, Cristian and Rogan, and his wonderful sister, Cheryl (Sherry).
He enjoyed being around his grandkids and cherished his sister, Cheryl Ann Hoskinson, of Columbus, OH. Those who knew Charlie, knew him to be a kind and thoughtful gentleman, courteous to others and always willing to lend a helping hand with a smile on his face. He was a good friend and even better neighbor, and those who knew him, enjoyed his lighthearted and goofy sense of humor. He spent his free time running or hiking in various parks wherever he lived, riding his bicycle with his own children to go for ice cream, or with other bike club members. He had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening or working in the yard throughout his life.
Family and friends are welcome to attend his memorial service at Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road, Stow, on Sunday, December 31, 2023, at 11 AM, with a military honors ceremony to follow. Friends may call from 10 AM to service time.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Avenue, Floor #17, Chicago, IL 60601.
