Muriel C. Hoskinson, a spirited soul who stitched love into every fiber of her life, has finished her earthly tapestry on May 23, 2025, closing her circle of life just as she began it, in the heart of Clayton, Delaware. Born on July 17, 1928, to the late Charles B. and Jane M. Chase, Muriel was the youngest spark of a family that included her sister Myrtis and brothers George, Charles, James, Franklin, and William, all of whom have previously taken their bows.
Married to the late Millard "Lew" Hoskinson, Muriel's heart was a home that never knew vacancy, even after her husband's departure. Although their union was without children, Muriel's love was never confined. She became a surrogate mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother through her numerous nieces, nephews, and their progeny, including deceased Evelyn Rook, Chuck Chase, Joyce Johnson and survived by James B. Chase, Louise Tolliver, Richard Chase, Beverly Cherriman, Frank Chase, Paul Chase, William Chase, Edith Stokely, Bruce Chase, and Dawn Fox, not to mention a tapestry of great and great-great nieces and nephews.
A proud graduate of Clayton School, Muriel's professional journey was woven at Leeds Travel Wear, where she served for 28 years, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and impeccable work ethic. Her commitment to community was just as sturdy, with memberships in the V.F.W. Post 8801 Ladies Auxiliary and Ewell's St. Paul's Church, where her faith and fellowship were as comforting as her handcrafted blankets.
Speaking of which, Muriel's crochet hooks were rarely still, creating a constellation of hats for the Smyrna Weslyn Church, Clayton School, and Veterans, not to mention the countless baby blankets and hats for Bayhealth Hospital and lap blankets for the Veteran's Hospital. We're pretty confident she's currently negotiating yarn supplies with the angels to ensure everyone in heaven stays warm and stylish.
Aunt Muriel was the epitome of loving, adventurous, and creative. She was always ready to embark on an adventure, whether with nieces, nephews, or friends, and she lived by a motto that was as much a warning as it was an invitation: "Don't ask me if you don't want me to go." True to her word, she never shied away from an opportunity to explore, laugh, and spread joy.
As we bid farewell to Muriel C. Hoskinson, let's celebrate the laughter, the love, and the downright craftiness she brought into our lives. She may have cast off her final stitch here with us, but we're certain she's just begun a new project on a celestial scale. So, here's to Muriel, the woman who showed us that life is an adventure to be crocheted with vibrant colors, bold patterns, and, above all, a sense of humor.
A viewing will be held on Monday, June 9, 2025 from 11 AM to 12 PM in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main Street in Smyrna. Funeral services will begin at 12 PM. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Smyrna.
