Charles Arthur Hubbard (Hub), 93, passed away Monday, March 20, 2023, at Turner's Rock Assisted Living, in Springfield, Missouri. He was born on May 11, 1929 in Seymour, Missouri to Elston and Orean Hubbard. He was the second child and oldest son of 13 children. Charlene Shumate and Charles united in marriage on January 27, 1951, in Baxter County, Arkansas. Together they had 3 children, Mike Hubbard, Mark Hubbard, and Michele Appleton. He was employed for 38 years at City Utilities in Springfield, Missouri as a tree trimming foreman. He was active in the army during the Korean war and then spent 28 years in the army reserves as an E5 Sergeant. Charles was an avid gardener, hunter, and enjoyed babysitting his grandchildren. Family and friends could always count on Hub for any help they needed.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Charlene, and 3 sisters and 1 brother. Charles is survived by his children, 6 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, and 6 brothers and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Viewing will be Sunday, March 26, at Greenlawn Funeral home North, from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM. With casket closed, and then from 2 PM to 6 PM we will open the casket for family and friends to pay their respect. Graveside services will be Monday, March 27 at 11 AM at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with Pastor, Eric Nissen officiating.
The family has requested donations to be made to Seasons Hospice on their Seasons Hospice website. The family requests that if you are sending flowers, they be in biodegradable containers to lay on the grave site. No houseplants please.
