In Loving Memory Charles "Bill" Johnston April 5, 1949 – February 3, 2025
Charles "Bill" Johnston, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away at the age of 75 on February 3, 2025, following a tragic car accident. Born on April 5, 1949, in Middlesboro, Kentucky, Bill's warmth and laughter brought light into the lives of all who knew him and was a generous soul who would go out of his way to help anyone in need. Bill proudly served his country as a veteran of the Army, stationed overseas in Korea, before embarking on his career as an accountant for over 50 years. Beyond his work as an accountant, he had a passion for old cars, often going to car shows with his son and grandkids. He also loved running and biking and made friends along the way, most especially Joe Brown, who was a close friend that often traveled with him out west to run.
Bill was preceded in death by his Parents: Joe and Lassie Johnston Brothers: Jerry, Bob, O'Neil and Eddie Johnston Sister: Jean Porter
He is survived by his Wife: Margie Johnston of 57 years Son: Jeremiah (Brittany) Johnston Daughter: Ginger (Matthew) Greene Grandchildren: Jayden, Jackson, Shelby and Eleanor Johnston Brothers: Mac (Jane) Johnston and Wayne (Glenda) Johnston Sisters: Sherry Maxwell, Joyce (Don) Schaub, Jan Miller and Jawana (Steve) Jackson And a plethora of nieces, nephews and friends, all of whom will miss his presence deeply
As we say goodbye to Bill, we are reminded of the impact one life can have on so many. His legacy of love, laughter and kindness will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. Bill's story is not one of sorrow but a celebration of a life well-lived and a man well-loved.
"The Holy Hills of Heaven" Lyrics by Dottie Rambo "The holy hills of Heaven call me This house of flesh is but a prison Bars of bone are holding my soul But the doors of clay are gonna burst wide open When the angel sets my spirit free I'll take my flight like a mighty eagle When the hills of home start calling me I see loved ones over yonder Tears are gone and hearts are free And from the throne king Jesus beckons Oh the hills of home are calling me"
The family will receive friends and family on Sunday, February 9th from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Claiborne-Overholt Funeral Home in New Tazewell, TN with the Rev. Eddie Overholt officiating. Graveside service will be Monday, February 10th at Cave Springs Cemetery in Tazewell, TN at 11:00am, with military honors.

Bill and I were friends since the 3rd grade. My mother named me "Charles" after her brother, and she always called me Charles. I remember going home in the 3rd grade and telling Mom; "There are three boys named Charles in my class, Chuck Martin, Bill Johnston, and ME!" Mom laughed at me since two out of three weren´t CALLED Charles. I made it 3 out of 3 at my first opportunity.
