Charles Jones

Charles Russell Jones, known as "Rusty" to family and "CJ" to friends, passed away on June 26, 2025, at the age of 65. He was born in Stuttgart, Germany, on January 20, 1960, to Charles C. Jones and Dorothy W. Jones.
As part of a military family, Charles lived in Kentucky, Alaska, Virginia, and eventually Jacksonville, Florida. He excelled academically, earning multiple awards at Sherwood Forest Elementary, and served as an altar boy at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.
A 1978 graduate of Ribault Senior High School, Charles also served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve beginning in 1977. He earned a B.S. in Physics from Talladega College, where he joined Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity,
Incorporated, and later earned an MBA from Webster University. Charles built a distinguished career in information technology and project management and later worked in security roles with the City of Jacksonville following his retirement from the Coast Guard. He also held leadership positions within the Reserve Officers Association and served as President of the Epilepsy Foundation of Northeast Florida.
He is preceded in death by his father, Charles C. Jones; niece, Jihan Borders; and godson, Darren Jones II.
He is survived by his son, Richard (Jeffunda) Hoggs; grandchildren A'zavier and Hannah Hoggs; mother, Dorothy W. Jones; sisters Laurie Joyce Jones, Dara Forest, and Eva Jones; devoted caregiver, Mary Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The funeral service for Charles Russell Jones will be held 11:30 am Monday, July 14th, 2025 at the Samuel C. Rogers, Jr. Memorial Chapel, 4315 N. Main Street Jacksonville, FL 32206. The visitation will be 10:00-11:30 am, Monday, July 14th, 2025 at the Funerals by T.S. Warden 4315 N. Main Street Jacksonville, FL 32206. Interment is Private. Please sign the family guest book.
