Charles A Kuper Jr. - affectionately known as "Charlie" - joined the Lord on the evening of June 11th, 2025. For eleven years, Charlie courageously fought Parkinson's Disease with dignity, grace, and a type of strength that words cannot capture. He continued to show up for his family even on his most difficult days.
Charlie was the son of Kathleen Jersig Kuper and Charles A. Kuper. As a young child, Charlie enjoyed ranching alongside his grandfather, Harry Jersig. His passion for outdoor adventures evolved into a love for fishing in Port Aransas with his family. He eventually became a member of Port Aransas Rod & Reel as an avid offshore and bay fisherman. Charlie attended The San Antonio Academy from 5th through 8th grade. He was the company commander of C Company. During his attendance at the Academy, Charlie was a 4-year letterman as a football halfback, and was all city in 8th grade. From 9th through 10th grade, Charlie attended TMI. He graduated high school from Cascia Hall Preparatory School in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Charlie attended The University of Texas in Austin from 1964 to 1969. As a member of the Phi-Delt Fraternity, Charlie developed lifelong friendships. These friendships blossomed into incredibly meaningful connections with a remarkable group of men who loved, cherished, and supported Charlie in all avenues of his life. At age 16, Charlie obtained his pilots license and became a member of the UT Longhorn Flying Club.
In 1972, Charlie founded Kuper Realty with a vision that continues to guide the brokerage today. His unwavering belief in integrity, service, and community helped established Kuper Realty as the leader in luxury real estate across Central and South Texas. Charlie was a visionary, and a powerful leader. Fearless with a presence that commanded every room. An inspiration for many across the industry. Charlie was a part-time faculty member of Trinity University for 4-years years where he taught real estate. In addition, Charlie was voted as one of the top professors by the student body. A longtime member of the Order of the Alamo, German Club, Texas Cavaliers, the Argyle, and the San Antonio Country Club, Charlie appreciated and valued San Antonio's vibrant culture.
Charlie welcomed his beloved son, Chase, in 1971. Together, Charlie and Chase shared a mutual passion for saltwater life. Fishing and boating was at the centerfold of their extraordinary relationship. In 2003, Charlie married the true love of his life, Elizabeth and welcomed Elizabeth's daughter, Maddie, as his own. "I always wanted a daughter, and I finally got one." As a family, horses and equestrian pursuits, fishing trips, and more boating excursions - with boats that seemed to never fully cooperate - were the norm. Maddie married Barrett Houser in 2020; a devoted son-in-law and "a new best friend" for Charlie.
Charlie is predeceased by his mother, Kathleen Jersig Kuper, his father, Charles A. Kuper, and his sister, Kitty Tottenham. Charlie is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, son, Chase, daughter, Maddie, son-in-law, Barrett, sister, Karen Royce and husband, Tommy, brother, Rick Kuper and wife, Caroline Kuper, brother-in-law, Denny Tottenham, and wife, Holly, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
