Kennard Morris - affectionately known by many as Elder Morris - was a good man who loved good food, his family, and God.
Born in St. Louis, Missouri, to Mattie and Sanders Morris, on June 20th, 1943, he was the youngest of four siblings. He graduated from Hadley Technical High School before moving to Los Angeles, where he attended L.A. Trade Tech.
Returning to St. Louis he married the love of his life, Quentella, in 1967, whom he met at church. During this time, though the Vietnam War raged on, he chose to join the military on his own terms. He served one tour in the Navy, aboard the USS Coral Sea aircraft carrier, earning the rank of E-4, where he worked on deck fighting fires and assisting with aircraft takeoffs and landings.
After his honorable discharge, he and his wife settled in Los Angeles, where they welcomed their first child, Kelley Morris-Wright (of San Antonio, Texas). Following the 1971 San Fernando earthquake, the family relocated to West Covina, where they welcomed their second child, Kennard Morris II (of Vienna, Austria).
Through a coworker, they were introduced to Greater Goodwill Church of God in Christ in Pomona California, where they worshiped faithfully for the next 32 years. It was there that Kennard answered the call to ministry and was eventually ordained as an Elder.
Making use of the GI Bill, Elder Morris returned to college and earned his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Cal Poly Pomona. Drawing from his experience working with both local and multinational companies, he founded his own real estate business, helping families secure loans and purchase homes throughout the San Gabriel Valley and Inland Empire.
Upon retiring, he and his family moved to San Antonio, Texas, where they eventually joined Grace Cathedral Church of God in Christ, pastored by Pastor Charles Wilburn. There, Elder Morris faithfully served in ministry until his passing.
Elder Kennard Morris Sr. passed away on Monday, October 6th, at 4:00 p.m., following an accident at home.
He is survived by his beloved wife Quentella, his children Kelley Morris-Wright of San Antonio, Texas, and Kennard Morris II and his wife Mariella Morris of Vienna, Austria, his sister DeLois and her husband Robert Nesbitt as well as countless nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
He was a great man of God - loved and respected by everyone he met. He will be greatly missed. His legacy of faith, love, and service will continue to live on in all who knew him. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Kennard, please visit our floral store.
