Mr. Charles W. Land transitioned to be with the Lord at Brasstown Manor on June
2, 2024 leaving behind a legacy of devotion and love.
Charles was born on November 4, 1934 in Gainesville, GA and was the youngest
of three children. He attended Hopewell Baptist church until joining the United
States Army where he served in Germany and Fort Hood, Texas.
He married the love of his life, Irene Shook Land (Hiawassee) on October 5 th ,
1956.  They raised their family in Oakwood, Georgia, and he and Irene worked at
Chicopee Manufacturing until retirement.  They moved to Towns County in 1998
and attended Union Hill United Methodist Church, where he and Irene were
faithful members. He spent many years serving as the official “Greeter” of Union
Hill and when one visited there, he was often the first person they met. Armed
with a smile and gentle, friendly nature, he was one of Union Hill’s greatest
ambassadors.  After retirement, he enjoyed traveling - loafering as he called it –
spending time with other family members and focusing on his one great passion -
being with Irene. He loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren
and made them all feel singularly special and loved.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Carlton C. Land, and Bessie W. Land,
brother Horace Land and sister Louise Clark.  He is survived by his wife, Irene S.
Land and sons Rick and Tony Land.  He has five amazing grandchildren, six great
grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Visitation: Tuesday, June 4, 2024 from 5:00P-7:00P at Banister-Cooper Funeral
