Mitchell Land, 79, of New York City, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 21, 2025.
Born on January 7, 1946, in New York City, Mitchell was the beloved son of the late John and Emily Land. After high school, Mitchell served honorably for four years in active duty in the United States Navy and completed a tour in Vietnam. He also reserved in the United States Naval Reserves. After his military service, he held several jobs including a position with the U.S. Postal Service before retiring after many years of hard work as an electrician for the New York City Transit Authority.
Mitchell had a passion for cooking. He also enjoyed the occasional trip to the casino, always up for a little fun and games. But above all, Mitchell cherished time spent with his family. Whether gathering around the table or simply enjoying one another's company, family meant everything to him.
In addition to his parents, Mitchell was preceded in death by his son, Byran Briggs.
He is survived by his wife, Iris Land; daughter, Michelle A. Land and Aisha Land, both of Albany, New York; stepchildren, Derrick Briggs of Anchorage, Alaska, and Jamie Coleman of New York City; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; sister, Dorothy Brower; along with several other beloved family members and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Afterward, Mitchell Land will be laid to rest privately.
