Earl “Levan” Lewis, age 90, of Hiawassee, GA, passed away on September 29, 2025.
Levan was born on August 21, 1935, to Earl and Sybil Lewis in Cumberland, KY. He is survived by his brother, Gary Lewis, and his sister, Patricia Handly.
A devoted husband, Levan shared 67 loving years of marriage with his wife, Betty. He was also a dedicated father to Anna Pat Smith (Mike) and Melody Evelyn Swindle (Mark), and a proud grandfather to two granddaughters, Kristyn Day and Kayla Smith.
Levan held a master’s degree in music and spent 38 years inspiring middle and high school students through his teaching. Even after retirement, he continued sharing his love of music for another decade with members of his community chorus and church choir in Leesburg, Florida. Eventually, he and Betty returned to their cherished mountains in North Georgia.
Levan enjoyed playing golf and cheering on the University of Kentucky Wildcats football and basketball teams. On Sunday mornings, he could often be found singing in the Union Hill Methodist Church choir.
