Mr. Grover Shook, age 91, passed away peacefully at Chatuge Regional Hospital on the morning of Wednesday, September, 24th. He was born on January 4th, 1934 in Young Harris GA, to the late Arvel and Inez (Hooper) Shook. Grover was of Baptist faith and believed in and loved his Lord and savior. He often told me stories of his daddy reading the Bible each night after supper with all the kids and mommy gathered around him. Grover also loved to tell Wampus Cat stories to his grandson. He could spin a wild tale with the best of them and his grandson, Ben, wanted to hear them every night when he was young.
Grover retired from General Motors in Atlanta in 1977 with disability and enjoyed working on small engines and keeping the neighbors lawn equipment working. He could fix almost anything.
Grover is survived by his daughter, Angie Hunt of Young Harris, GA; his grandson, Ben Hunt and wife, Bonnie; great grandchildren, Carson Hunt and Lila Hunt; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Guy Wayne and Phyllis Shook of Blairsville and Terrell and Helen Shook of Young Harris, GA; his sister-in-law, Nancy Broshears; brother-in-law, Jim Stephens of Young Harris, GA; sister-in-law, Charlotte Hyde of Covington, GA; sister-in-law, Linda Holden of Rome, GA, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Audrey and Bob Wade of Florence, MA. Many nieces and nephews and friends also survive.
Visitation and Service: Saturday, September 27, 2025 from 12:00-2:00pm at West Union Baptist Church in Young Harris, GA. Service begins at 2:00pm with Reverend Paul Ray Morgan and Reverend Guy Wayne Shook officiating. Songs by Luna Thompson and Jimmy Southern.
