LAWLER, Mr. Charles - Age 80, passed away Friday, March 10, 2023, at his residence. Family hour 1:30 PM Friday, March 17, 2023, from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 2:00 PM. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 1:30 PM Friday. Mr. Lawler will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Thursday. Mr. Charles Lawler, lovingly known as "Just Charles and Pa Pa", was born August 8, 1942 in
Talladega, AL. He was the son of the late David Lawler and Mary Etta (Swain) Lawler. At the age of 80, Charles was peacefully laid to rest at his residence with his children by his side. He was the first sibling to graduate from High School in 1961 from West Side High in Talladega. Following graduation, he moved to Michigan to join his family and secure employment. Later he met and married his lifelong love and best friend, the late Shirley Lawler on January 5,1965. The marriage lasted for 37 years but their bond carried on til the end. Charles retired from General Motors after 27 years of service. He became a member of the Rose of Sharon Lodge #4 in 1993 where he rose to become ranked to the 32nd degree by the Detroit Consistory #1.
Charles was full of life and loved everyone he encountered. He touched those around him with his "Lawler Charm". He loved his family and took pleasure in spending quality time often saying "Family is Everything". He showed it in many ways affectionately making late night or early morning calls or visits with a horn honk after few "cocktails" especially to his brother, John D. He was a master of giving those around him a nickname, such as the one for his daughter "Christmas". He enjoyed going to the " Spot Under the Tree" to hang with his close friends including Bob and Dixon. Mr. Charles Lawler leaves to cherish his memory: daughter, Evangela D. Lawler; son, Charles D. (Melissa) Lawler, Sr., all of Flint; daughter-in-law, Thelma Watson of
Albion, MI; grandchildren, Charles D. (Cassie) Lawler Jr. of

Atlanta, GA, Jasmine Y. Lawler, Anthony D. Lawler, Samiah I. Lawler, TJ Busha, and Aunyai B. Busha, all of
Flint, MI; great-grandchildren, Le'Relle M. Williams, Ja'Myiah M. Williams, Ja'Nyiah M. Williams Jae'Dah M. Williams, Jae' Yonna M. Williams, JazLynn Williams and Alani K. Burnett, all of Flint, Aiden A. Lawler of
Pontiac, MI; brother, John D. (Henrietta) Lawler of
Talladega, AL; sister-in-law, Bobby Ruth Lawler of Flint; a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. Lawler was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Lawler, daughter, Charlene Lawler; son, Sebastian (James) L. Watson; parents, David and Mary Etta Lawler; 2 grandsons, Adrien T. Lawler and Cordaro Busha, both of
Flint, MI; 4 sisters, Virgella (Elonzo) Duncan, of Flint, Lorene (June) Pointer, Ruth Lawler of
Talladega, AL, and Lutisha McGhee of
Albion, MI; 8 brothers, Bishop Elijah Lawler, of
Talladega, AL, Henry (Hazel) Lawler, of
Albion, MI, Hugh (Easie Mae) Lawler, Walter "Dyke" Lawler, of
Flint, MI, JT Lawler, Wiggy and Amos Lawler, all of
Talladega, AL. The family would like to express thanks to the staff of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and the medical professionals at Hurley Medical Center & Genesys Hurley Cancer Institute. Special thanks to William Crawford, Dr. Elamahdi M. Saeed his primary doctor and Anne Cox his nutritionist at Genesys Hurley Cancer Institute who were a great help in his final care needs.
