Charles Levison Obituary

Charles L. Levison M.D.

Phoenix - Charles L. Levison M.D., 89, of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away at home on December 12, 2020, surrounded by his family and friends. Charlie (Papa Charlie) loved his family, his patients, and his horses. As a well respected family practice physician in Phoenix for more than sixty years, he practiced medicine up until the week of his passing. His patients found him to be a kind soul. Additionally, he volunteered his medical expertise at Mission of Mercy for over 21 years, and donated thousands of hours caring for people in-need. Never one to sit still, Charlie was an avid horseback rider and had many friends in the horse community. On Thanksgiving morning, he was doing what he truly enjoyed - riding his mule Chip and had an accident in Phoenix Mountain Preserve. Many people came to his aid, for which his family is grateful. Although he fought bravely, he did not recover. Papa Charlie's brilliant mind and childlike spirit were a unique and wonderful combination - his presence is deeply missed.

Charlie married his wife Helen in 1956, and shortly after they moved to Arizona where they raised their four children. Their marriage of 61 years was an inspiration to the rest of the family. Papa Charlie was a loving father to Cindy (Charles); Robert (preceded in death); William (Asli); Jeffrey (Diane). He is also survived by sister Ruth Kalish, seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Extended family includes many nieces and nephews, and his adoring equines Chip and Banjo.

The family would ask that donations be made to Mission of Mercy Arizona - 360 E. Coronado Rd., Suite 160, Phoenix, AZ 85004. 602.861.2233, www.healingaz.org

We still miss our Dr. Levison dearly! We knew him for over 40 years, and considered him our friend, as well as the best doctor we ever knew.
His love for his family was evident to all. His heart and love for people was overwhelmingly. He loved his animals and often discussed the bald spots on his donkey.
We hope knowing how many people keep the memory of Dr. Levison in their hearts, blesses and comforts his family.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful, gifted and kind hearted man with the world.
We love you all, Anna & Wayne

I worked with Dr. Levison my first years here in Phoenix. It was my first position in the Medical field. He and Helen were extraordinary people and I am honored to have had the opportunity to work with him and know them both! He was beautiful, positive and genuine and know patients are truly mourning his passing! He is a memory eternally imprinted in my life.

Dr. Levison was my Dr. since I was a fetus. He was more than a doctor to me, he was a part of my family. He was supportive of me when I took care of my parents when they got sick. I will miss him terribly.

Dr. Levison was my GP since I moved to Arizona in 1983. His loss is an unexpected tragedy and I will miss him dearly. He had become my friend, as well as being an amazing doctor. Dr. Levison was always willing to listen, he was patient, kind and had the rare ability not to close his mind to new or different possibilities for treatment. He valued what patients knew about their own bodies and didn't try to force a course of treatment. Dr. Levison's sense of humor and happy outlook was always amazing. He sure loved Chip and I remember discussing treatments for the mule's hair loss issues. I thank God for Dr Levison and pray for comfort and peace for the family he loved so much.

I work with Dr.Levison at Dr.'s Hospital m as ny years ago, he was so kind caring to his parents, they all loved him, all the nurses I worked with thought the world of him, some of the nurses from Dr's hospital we still get together monthly for luncheon, there's about 15 of us. Dr. Levison was always early making rounds to see his hospital patients, He loved his patients, family, his hobby riding Chip his mule, He will be missed by all.
Memories you will cherish, prayers for you all.

One of my favorite persons EVER. I worked for him for 3 years in the 70s, and kept in touch over the years. A very kind soul. Generous man. So privileged to know him.
