With immense sadness, our family announces and mourns the passing of our beloved Chuckie. Chuckie passed away peacefully surrounded by love on August 21st at Jersey Shore Sub Acute Care facility. His bright light, love, and special heart will be forever missed in our lives and treasured in our hearts.
Chuckie resided with his dear family in Union Beach, NJ most of his life. In 2007, he moved in and lived with his sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Tom Lands, where he thrived and enjoyed many adventures for over 17 years. Eventually he moved into his group home with friends where he attended his daily day program and won the hearts of all his caregivers. Chuckie attended Royal Senior Day Care in Atlantic Highlands and ARC of Western Monmouth in Manalapan for many years. He had many happy, cherished memories spent with family and friends. He attended countless circus days as an avid Ringling Brothers Circus fan. He found joy in attending parades, socializing with new and old friends, enjoying a good McDonalds lunch, and people watching along the beach in Long Beach Island. Chuckie loved his many birthday and holiday celebrations over the years, too.
He was predeceased by his loving parents, Ray and Margaret Matthews. Chuckie is survived by his siblings, Peggy and Tom Lands, Robin and Anthony Maglione, Randy Matthews, and Barbara Marion. He leaves behind his loving family Amy & Rich Steckhahn, Chris & Jamie Lands, Nick & Deanne Lands, Mark & Allison Maglione, AJ Maglione and many great nieces and nephews who he adored. Chuckie leaves behind countless friends whose lives he touched so lovingly.
As an individual with special needs, Chuckie taught the world how to be accepting, inclusive, and respect someone for who they are on the inside. Our family was given his presence and love for over 50 years and we are all better people for the light he brought to our lives.
Family and friends are invited to Day Funeral Home in Keyport on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 between 10-12 to pay their final respects. A memorial service will be conducted at the funeral home at 12pm, with a graveside service to follow at St. Joseph's Mausoleum, Keyport. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his honor to support inclusion of those with special needs by donating online to Field of Dreams in Toms River, NJ.
We will miss our boy, forever.
