Charles "Chuck" W. Melson Jr., 69, of Delmar, DE, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 22, 2025. Born on March 26, 1956, in Salisbury, MD, he grew up in the Pittsville and Parsonsburg area, where he formed many cherished memories. He was a son of the late Charles. W. Melson, Sr. and Geraldine Alice (Parks) Mason. He attended Wi-Hi and developed a love for the great outdoors that would remain with him throughout his life. He proudly served his country in the US Navy. Chuck loved his work as a truck driver where he had a satisfying career with Perdue Farms for 20 years before driving for Allen's Mill and Salisbury Brick in his later years. Chuck was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in hunting, boating, crabbing, and fishing in both freshwater and saltwater. His passion for these activities was matched only by his love for gardening and the birds that visited his yard, especially his hummingbirds. In his early years, he enjoyed participating in bowling and archery competitions, as well as playing softball. Chuck also had a deep affection for animals, particularly his loyal dog Duke, who preceded him in death, and his beloved sidekick, Ginger. He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Tammy (Feather) Melson, who he married February 14, 1998; children, Charles W. Melson, III and wife, Kristine, Jessica Leigh Melson, Caine Alexander Melson and Jasmine Melson; 5 grandchildren; Frank Melson; sister, Valerie Straub and husband, Bill; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Matthew Chase Melson in 2005. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, followed by a funeral service which begins at 11:00. Interment will follow at Line Community Cemetery in Delmar.
