Charles A. Olivarez

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of a truly remarkable man, Charles Olivarez-a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and great-grandfather-who touched countless lives with his contagious smile, compassion, empathy, wit, strength, and the genuine connections he formed with everyone he met.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Nicanor and Domitilla Olivarez; his beloved wife of 51 years, Theresa "Teddy" Olivarez; and his son, John Charles "Coby" Olivarez.

Charles' first love was Jesus Christ. He faithfully lived his beliefs and found great joy in being present for his children and grandchildren as they received their holy sacraments in the Catholic Church. His faith was the foundation of his life.

He was also a passionate sports enthusiast. An avid golfer, Charles spent many happy hours on the course and proudly celebrated not one, but two hole-in-ones in his lifetime-achievements he cherished deeply. He delighted in teaching his grandchildren how to play and love the game. He also shared a lifelong love of fishing with his beloved wife, Teddy, his children, and close friends. In the past decade of his life, he enjoyed competitive group card games with his wife and friends.

Charles found joy in teaching life's simple pleasures-he taught his children and grandchildren how to swim, ride bikes, roller skate, and play games like kickball and baseball, always encouraging an active, joyful life.

A loyal and dedicated fan, Charles was featured in the Judson ISD athletic newsletter, The Goat, for cheering on the Judson Rockets and faithfully attending football games for over 42 years. He mentored many students and athletes, maintaining relationships with them as they continued on to college. He was also a devoted supporter of the San Antonio Spurs, sharing his passion for sports and creating long lasting memories with family and friends.

Charles possessed a deep appreciation and knowledge of world history and was a lifelong learner of the past, always eager to share information and his insights.

Above all, his greatest love was his family. He was a selfless, compassionate, and devoted caregiver to his beloved wife, Teddy, and his son, Coby. His patience, strength, and unwavering devotion reflected the very best of his character, even as he endured the profound loss of both during his lifetime.

In time, Charles found love again and married Betty Jo Paine, gaining John Paine and Kim Bishop as his cherished "bonus" children. He embraced and loved the extended family grandchildren and great grandchildren who became part of his life, treasuring each new relationship.

As a husband, Charles was a loving, fun partner and best friend. As a father, he led with wisdom, strength, and compassion. As a grandfather and great-grandfather, he found his greatest joy-treasuring every laugh, every story, every dance, every joke, and every hug.

He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, compassion, and joy, defined by his love of teaching, mentoring, listening, and bringing laughter to those around him. Charles will live on in the hearts of his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, lifelong friends, and all who were blessed to know him.

Charles leaves behind his wife, Betty Paine Olivarez, daughters Katherine "Kathy" Britt (Robert Britt), Patricia "Patti" Annunzio, Grandchildren Ashley Mercer (Ryan), Charles Tyler Wyrick (Katy), Jacob Britt (Madison), John Camron Olivarez, great grandchildren Madison Mercer, Charles Pierson Wyrick, and Emmaline Marie Wyrick. Sisters Martha (Richard) and Mary Lou Potter. Bonus son, John Paine (Missy), bonus daughter Kim Bishop (Bill), all his bonus grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family members.

Services honoring Charles will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Selma, TX. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, San Antonio, TX.
