Charles Peterson Obituary

Charles “Chuck” Dean Peterson, 76 of Winona, MN passed away peacefully at home on December 14 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of family, friends and many more lives who were touched by him. We ask that you remember him, not for the way his life ended, but for the way it was lived and the lasting impact it had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Chuck was born in Faribault, MN and moved to Winona, MN in 1967 to attend college at Winona State University for Computer Science. It was in Winona that he met the love of his life, Jerri Peterson (Tarras), in 1973 and they married in 1974. They shared 50 beautiful years of marriage and have four amazing children, Casie (Brad) Johnson, Mark (Tracie) Peterson, Kelly (Joe) Weilandt and Erin (Matt) Sturm. They were blessed to have 10 grandchildren (Gabe Weilandt, Ethan Johnson, Brayden Weilandt, Lexie Johnson, Tyler Sturm, Hailee Peterson, Gavin Johnson, Emilee Peterson, Charlee Peterson and Bella Sturm) and two great-grandchildren (Adi & Gwen Weilandt).

Chuck retired from Bay State Milling, Co. in 2018 after 44 years of employment. During these years, he spent 14 years in the Army Reserves, retiring in the Signal Corps department. In his spare time, Chuck enjoyed traveling and visiting many places across the country (via the old standard Rand McNally atlas), reading, camping with his family, woodworking, bowling and spending time with family and friends. He was a loyal, caring and dedicated person attending every sporting game, school performance and major celebrations of his children and grandchildren that he was able to. He was an avid sports watcher of his Minnesota teams and would almost certainly turn off the TV if he saw they were losing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles & Mary Peterson and brother, Mark Peterson.

A memorial service will take place on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at 11am at Hoff Celebration of Life Center in Winona. There will be a visitation 1 hour prior to the service, starting at 10am.

Fr. Mark McNea will be officiating the services.
