Charles R. Porter of Hawthorn Woods, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday February 18, 2025 at the age of 93. He was born March 15, 1931 in Greenwood Arkansas, the son of Lucian and Bessie Porter.
An auto mechanic for over 40 years, Charlie was a man who could fix anything, machines, plumbing, electric, HVAC, whatever. You name it, he could fix it. He enjoyed woodworking and making Christmas ornaments. A lover of music, he and his wife of over 60 years, Carol, had season tickets to the Lyric Opera for over 30 years. He loved being outside and working in the yard. If it wasn’t raining or snowing he was probably working in the yard. He loved good food, a good bottle of beer and watching the birds in his backyard while he ate lunch. He was loved by many people and will be missed dearly.
Charlie is survived by his brother Jim and his children Ken (Chris) Porter, Susan Porter, David (Regina) Porter and his grandchildren Charlie, Emma, and Kyla and great grandchild Phoebe Marie.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Carol and his brother Bob and sister Pat.
A memorial service will be held at St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church, Deerfield on April 26th at 11:00 am.
