Heaven received another angel on January 8, 2022. Charles (Chuck) Evan Sappington was born June 18, 1934, in Morrison, OK. He is presided in death by his parents Albert Alexander Sappington and Maggie Aby (King) Sappington. He was the last of the twelve siblings, William Alfred (Chloris) Sappington, Eula May Sappington (Robert) Arnesen, Dovie Matilda Sappington (Earl Lee) Clapp, Ruby Ethel Lee Sappington (James) Hester, Ada Jane Sappington (LeRoy) Leonard, Albert King Sappington, Mary Nell Sappington (Harold) Peffer, Joseph Lovard (Anna Lou) Sappington, Samuel Houston Sappington, Phyllis Pauline Sappington, and Sharon Kay Sappington (William) Savage.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 66 years Verla Mae Zimmerman Sappington, his children Brenda Sappington (John) Tackett, Jeff (Brenda Kay) Sappington, and Teresa Sappington (Danny) Gillit. His grandchildren Eric (Lacey) Sappington, Marcus (Tiffany) Sappington, Anna Jo Sappington (Andrew) Holmes, Michael Detmers, and Steven (Jessica) Detmers. Twelve great grandchildren, many nieces, and nephews. His sister-in-law Alice Zimmerman Anderson and brother-in-law Harold Peffer.
Chuck graduated from Maupin High School, Maupin, OR in May 1954. Chuck married his high school sweetheart Verla Mae Zimmerman Sappington on November 10, 1955. You never saw Chuck without Verla nearby.
Chuck served in the US Army from April 1957 to April 1959. The army moved them to California. When Chuck got out of the Army, he told the story that the Army did not give them enough money to go back to Oregon. He told this story for 60+ years. When Chuck got out of the army, he immediately joined the California Army National Guard. While in the Guard he become a licensed aircraft mechanic. Chuck had the ability to see a task and make it easier by modifying a tool for the job. They purchased their house in Manteca October 1961 where they raised their family. Chuck served in the National Guard until he retired in October 1981.
After retirement, Chuck and Verla got into genealogy and started looking for all of their ancestors because of this they were always on the road going to this family reunion or that family reunion anywhere in the country.
Chuck will be missed dearly by his entire family.
