Charles Smith Jr., age 100, passed away at Kenwood Plaza, May 21, 2025. He was born on February 16, 1925 at Arkansas City, KS, the son of B.H. and Clara Elizabeth (Huffman) Smith.

A lifelong resident of Stafford County, KS., he was a farmer/stockman.

Charles was a US Navy Veteran serving during WWII from 1944-1946.

On March 30, 1944, he married Gladys R. Hoffman in Pratt, KS. He later married Agnes Marie Gassman on May 16, 1998 in Stafford, KS.

Charles was a member of Larned Christian Church, Radium Co-op, Farm Bureau, Radium Senior Center, American Legion, and the VFW.

He is survived by his wife Agnes, St. John, KS; a daughter Sondra “Sandy” Smith, St. John, KS; a step-daughter, Linda Marie (Wayne) Steffen, Wichita, KS; 3 Grandchildren, and 8 Great-Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Gladys, his parents, a daughter, Frankie L. Sjolinder, a step-son Dennis L. Hosman, a brother, Clyde Smith, and a sister Mary Louise Smith.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at Minnis Chapel, St. John, KS. Funeral Service will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday at Minnis Chapel.

Interment will be in the Fairview Park Cemetery, St. John, KS with military honors provided by the U.S. Navy.

Memorial checks may be made to the Radium Senior Center or Sunflower Senior Center in care of Minnis Chapel, Box 34, St. John, KS 67576.
