Charles L. Staples, 82, of Aiken, SC, formerly of Henderson Co. KY passed away in the evening of August 15, 2023, from complications of a stroke.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Gloria Lee (Phelps) Staples and two sons, Brian K. Staples (Kelly), Versailles, KY and William “Ty” Staples, (Anastasia), Danville, KY; two granddaughters, Allie Staples, Dayton, OH and Natalie Staples Dean (Justin), Gainesville, GA; one grandson, Nicholas Staples, Danville, KY; and one brother, Hugh Staples (Jeanie), Henderson, KY; and many nephews and nieces.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Mallie and Rosalie Staples, brothers and sisters, Arnold Lee Staples, Irene Peckenpaugh, Jimie Staples, Peggy Spencer, and Jerry Staples, who we know were welcoming him to eternal life.
His career spanned 35 plus years in the Rural Electric Industry serving and living in six states across the South. Former owners of Dogwood Florist. He loved spending time with his family and friends and at the family farm. Charles attended 44 Kentucky Derbies, 40 of them were in consecutive years from 1975 through 2015.
The visitation and funeral will be at Benton-Glunt & Tapp Funeral Home in Henderson, KY, visitation on Sunday, August 20 from 2-4PM CST and funeral on Monday, August 21 at 10AM CST. Graveside services will be at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, Hebbardsville, KY, where he and his wife grew up and were married.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday, September 2 from 3—5PM EST at Woodside Plantation Country Club in Aiken, SC.
