Charles was also a lifelong follower of Jesus. He was a member of the Frostburg Church of the Nazarene and served in various roles, including Sunday School teacher, board member and treasurer. He was an active member of the Gideons for over 45 years and dedicated his life to spreading the gospel.

Finally, Charles was a loving and dedicated family man. Surviving are his wife of nearly 60 years, Harriet M. (Knerr) Sterrett; his son, Matthew James Sterrett and wife Heather of Hanover, PA, and granddaughters Hannah Noelle, Holly Elizabeth, Meghan Olivia and Mollie Grace Sterrett; and son Jonathan David Sterrett and wife Ashley, of Keyser, WV, granddaughter Skylar Dougherty and grandson, Jaxon Charles Sterrett. He is also survived by his loving cousins, nephews, niece, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, and extended family.
