Blaine L. Hostetler, 91, of Finzel, Maryland, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at UPMC Western Maryland in Cumberland, surrounded by his family.
He was born on April 11, 1934, in Pocahontas, Pennsylvania, to the late Robert and Mary Hostetler and was preceded in death by his brother, Gilbert.
Blaine is survived by his loving wife of 70 wonderful years, Virginia, and their children: Linda (the late William) Friend of Cumberland, Maryland; Gregory (Ambra) Hostetler of Finzel, Maryland; and Ellen (Albert) Thomas of Salisbury, Pennsylvania. He was the proud grandfather of six: William Friend, Danny (Jaime) Thomas, Amy (Marty) Johnson, Michael Hostetler, Katie (Clay) Hostetler, and Ashley (Nick) Wilkins; and great-grandfather to nine: Sophia & Mackenzie Thomas, Frankie Spriggs & Kit Matthews, Josey, Kylee & Royce Johnson, and Kinsley & Ayda Wilkins. He also leaves behind a special nephew, Terry Hostetler.
Throughout his life, Blaine worked at Mt. Savage Brickyard, Frostburg Bakery, Schmidts Bakery, and the Allegany County Board of Education. A devoted sports fan, he loved watching a good game-whether in person, on television, or in the pages of the local newspaper.
Above all, Blaine cherished his family. He delighted in Sunday dinners, cheering at ball games, taking nature walks with his grandchildren, and teaching them how to play cards. Known for his quick wit and good humor, he never missed a chance to share a story or a joke. His faith was central to his life, and he faithfully served as a steward of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pocahontas, Pennsylvania, for many years.
