Charles Steven Alewine, “Steve”, 72, of Watkinsville, passed away on August 5, 2025.
Born on December 6, 1952, he was the son of the late S.T. Alewine and Peggy Marie Daniel Alewine.
Steve was a God fearing, dedicated family man who lived his life grounded in faith and hard work. For over 30 years, Steve worked at CP Alewine & Sons alongside his family. Following his time there, he continued his career as a beloved security guard at St. Mary's Highland Hills for 12 years. He was also proud to have served in the Army Reserves, a testament to his dedication to his country.
Steve always found joy in life, and had a variety of interests including nature, music, food, and the Georgia Bulldogs, but loved and adored his family above all else. One of his proudest accomplishments was his involvement as a youth sports coach in Athens and Oconee County, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the lives of many young athletes. He will be remembered for his deep, thoughtful nature, which was always complemented by his good sense of humor.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Cali Ross; and sister-in-law, Polly Alewine.
Steve is survived by his children, Derek Alewine (Maria), Dustin Alewine (Payton Sease), Demi Ross (Ja’Rius); grandchildren, Stevie Alewine, Grace Ross, Nori Ross, Dalton Ross, Leni Ross; brothers, Curtis Alewine (Sue), Sammy Alewine, Dennis Alewine (Decia); nieces and nephews, Todd Alewine (Connie), Terri Alewine, Paul Alewine (Gail), Kevin Alewine; numerous great nieces and nephews, cousins and loved ones.
The family will receive friends Friday, August 15, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, WEST, Watkinsville. The Funeral Services will be held the following day, Saturday, August 16th, at 2:00 PM at Cornerstone Church Athens with pastors Scott Shepherd and Steve Stringham officiating.
