Charles S. Walsh, a resident of Jamestown, NY since 2011, formerly of Rockland County and New York City, passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at the Heritage Park Nursing Facility in Jamestown. He was 97.
Son of the late James F. and Anna (O'Donnell) Walsh, he was born in Manhattan on January 18, 1927. In 1944, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served our nation during World War II. He was honorably discharged from service in 1946 and was awarded with both the American Theater and Victory medals.
Charles was a proud member of the United Auto Workers of America for more than 40 years. He worked in the automotive parts industry at several locations throughout New York and retired in 1997.
On May 14, 1960, he married Kathleen Byrne in Astoria, Queens. Kathleen predeceased Charles on March 19, 1999.
Survivors include four nieces and one nephew: Geraldine Burkes, Carol Heitzler, James Walsh & his wife Anne, Joan Ericsson, and Elizabeth Caballero & her husband Richard; as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews along with their families; and other loving relatives & friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, Charles was also predeceased by his siblings, Henry "Harry" Walsh, Dorothea Ericsson, Mary Eleanor Quinn, James Walsh, and Robert Walsh; as well as three nephews and a niece, John Ericsson, Maria Ericsson, Eileen Widen, and John Quinn, Jr.
Calling hours will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 4 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill, NY. After the visitation, a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill, NY. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 10 W. Stevens Avenue, Hawthorne, NY.
