Charles Alexander Waterman, of Carver, formerly of Holbrook, a cherished soul whose kindness and friendly nature touched everyone he met, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on December 8, 1944, in the heart of Boston, Charles was the son of the late Albert and Anne (Vaulding) Waterman, and he carried the legacy of his parents with grace and dignity throughout his life.
He was the devoted husband of the late Arlene (Johnson) Waterman, whose memory he held close to his heart and was married to for 48 years. A loving father, he is survived by his daughter, Kim (Waterman) Dove of Medford, NJ, and his estranged child, Kris Waterman. He was the brother of the late Albert Lee Waterman, Jr., Ann Comeau, and Lynne Waterman and will be remembered fondly by his family and friends both near and far.
A proud alumnus of Brighton High School, Charles's education laid the foundation for a robust career as a heavy equipment mechanic. For over 15 years, he dedicated his skills to Casey and Dupuis in Watertown, where his work ethic and camaraderie left a lasting impression on his colleagues and the community he served.
Charles's life was a tapestry woven with vibrant threads of interest and passion. He was a beacon of the Boston spirit, his love for the city evident in every aspect of his life. In his early years into adulthood, Charles could be found on a boat cruising through Boston Harbor and venturing deep into the Atlantic to fish and spend time on the ocean, one of his first loves. As a young man, he was actively involved in the Boy Scouts in Allston, an experience that fostered his affinity for the outdoors and nature. His connection with animals, especially dogs, was known to all, and his 'green hand' brought beauty to the world through his gardening. Charles was also especially proud of his short time as a Little League coach in Allston and many fond and long-lasting memories were created at Smith Field.
For 28 years, Charles made Holbrook his home, where the sounds of Classic Rock, particularly the melodies of the Allman Brothers Band, filled the air. His spirit was as free and untamed as the music he loved. An avid Boston Red Sox fan, Charles's enthusiasm for the game was infectious, and his presence in the living room, passionately cheering (and occasionally yelling) at the TV, became a cherished ritual.
Charles's daily pilgrimage to Dunkin Donuts for his beloved coffee and coffee rolls was a testament to the simple joys he cherished. This routine, like so many aspects of his life, was about more than just the coffee; it was about the community and the many friends he made along the way.
Perhaps most importantly, Charles was a man who valued time spent with family and friends above all else. His loving and kind nature along with his wicked sense of humor made every gathering brighter, every conversation more meaningful. He had the unique ability to make others feel seen and heard, and his legacy is one of warmth and connection.
Charles Alexander Waterman lived a life full of love, laughter, and the unwavering support of those he held dear. As we say goodbye to this remarkable man, we celebrate the joy he brought into our lives and the countless memories that will continue to light our way. Though he may be gone, his spirit remains a guiding force, a reminder of the beauty in kindness and the strength in community. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
