Cumberland, MD- On Wednesday, July 16, 2025, the Angels carried Charles Sherman Williams, 88, of Cumberland, MD, to paradise.

Born March13, 1937 in Cumberland Valley Twp, PA, Mr. Williams was the son of the late Sherman Harold Williams and Gertrude Angela (Ruby) Williams. He was also preceded in death by his first wife: Cynthia (Leopard) Williams; his sons: Jerry and Wesley Williams; his sisters: Elma Rose, Delores Miller, and Betty Layton; and his brothers: Norman and Edward "Eddie" Williams.

Charles was a graduate of Bedford High School and a Veteran of the United States Air Force. He was formerly employed at Kelly Springfield Tire and Rubber Company and retired from Cumberland Valley Township. He was never one to sit still and liked to keep busy. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved watching baseball and football, especially the Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Charles is survived by his wife of 15 years: Joyce Growden; his son: Stanley Williams and wife Kitty; his stepson: Norman Growden and wife Sherri; his brothers: Ronald Williams; and Donald Williams (Gail); his grandchildren: Karma Sipes (Dennis); Desiree Clark (Eric); Jessica Diehl; Erica Williams; Austin Williams and wife Stephanie; and Dodie Williams; his step grandchildren: Taylor, Jazmine, Dalton, and Kirsten Growden; and Spencer and Robert Gavlock; as all as numerous great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Charles' life will be announced at a later date.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Devlin Manor Health Care Center as well as UPMC-Western Maryland Home Hospice for all the care and compassion given.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in his name to St. Jude's Children's Research Center, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
