Charles Cecil "Sonny" Williams, Jr., 94, of
McPherson, KS, passed away Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Bethany Home in Lindsborg.
Charles was born on his parent's farm in Osage County, OK on January 10, 1931, the son of the late Charles Cecil Williams, Sr. and Cletus Cloe (Miller) Williams.
Charles attended Gaylor Grade School in Osage County, OK and graduated from Ponca City High School, Ponca City, OK in 1949. He then attended and graduated from Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater, OK.
Charles honorably served in the United States Army as a Sergeant Medical Corp. He was stationed at Fort Benning, GA.
Charles worked as a Farm Manager and was Vice President for McPherson Bank and Trust until 1990. He then worked for Farm Credit as an Appraiser. In 2001 Charles started Williams Farm Managing and Appraising until he retired in 2008.
Charles enjoyed grilling, farming, gardening, loved being outside, and spending time with his friends and family. He enjoyed grilling for the farmers at the Rural Appreciation Dinner each summer.
He was a member of the McPherson Chamber of Commerce, American Farm Managers and Appraisers, and Kansas Society of Farm Managers and Appraisers.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in McPherson.
Charles married Marcia Lorraine Stinnett on May 31, 1955, in Enid, OK. The young couple established their first home together in Stillwater, OK where they lived from 1955-1957. They then moved to Manhattan, KS from 1957- 1959, Tyler, TX from 1959-1963, Fort Smith, AR 1963-1964, Hutchinson, KS from 1964-1966, and Emporia, KS from 1966-1970. In 1970 the couple moved to McPherson. This union was blessed with the birth of 5 children, three sons and two daughters, Rosemary Elaine, Charles Bruce, Elizabeth Ann, John Robert, and Neal Joseph.
He is survived by his wife, Marcia Williams of McPherson; children, Rosemary (Patrick) Crowley of Indianapolis, IN, Bruce (Janet) Williams, of Port Charlotte, FL, Elizabeth Williams of Wichita, KS, John (Brenda) Williams of Lee Summit, MO, and Neal Williams of McPherson; grandchildren, Tyler Black, Joseph (Shelby) Crowley, Shannon (Andrew) Conner and Charles Robert Williams; and great grandchildren, Carter and Palmer Crowley.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Charles, Sr and Cletus; brothers, Bob Williams and Jake Williams and sister, Joan Ehler.
Visitation will be 10:00 -11:00 a.m. at Glidden-Ediger-Wiggins Chapel in McPherson, Friday, September 12, 2025. Graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. at McPherson Cemetery.
