Charles Wysong Obituary
Charles Felix Wysong Jr, 84, of Chattanooga, TN passed away Saturday, October 25, 2025.
He was born in Atlanta, Georgia on February 8, 1941, the first child of Charles and Lee Wysong. He was born into a strong family. His brothers, Harvey, Gordon and Michael were a constant source of adventure. He adored his sister Holley. He lettered in wrestling, football, tennis and track at Marist and obtained a ceramic engineering degree from Clemson University. Charlie, as he was affectionately known, was preceded in death by his mother, father, and brother Michael.
The defining feature of his life was his family. He and his beloved wife Brenda brought fifteen children into this world, eleven sons and four daughters who loved him wildly. From that quiver full of children, he became a grandfather to fifty-eight grandchildren. Three of those are yet unborn. But, that too was a defining mark in his life.
Charlie fought against abortion, because he believed life began in the womb. He pled with those seeking abortions to change their minds. He tried to express God's love for all in his gentle approach to confrontation. But he wouldn't shy away from the confrontation. He founded American Rights Coalition to help women who were injured by abortion. He fought all the way to the Supreme Court and back in defense of the unborn.
He later realized that the Ten Commandments were being neglected even by the Church. He questioned how society could be expected to follow the laws of God, if the Church didn't know them. To that end, he distributed hundreds of thousands of copies of the Ten Commandments. He was a prolific speaker in churches. No church was too big or too small to hear the message of God's love for the unborn and the need of the church to follow His commandments.
He was an advocate of a life lived in accordance with Biblical principles. He was a warm, devoted husband, a patient father, and he loved his family fiercely. He coached, encouraged, and supported his family in all their endeavors. From his children's wrestling tournaments, rugby games, soccer matches, to the cross-country races, wrestling tournaments, and lacrosse matches of his grandchildren, he beamed with pride at their accomplishments. He comforted when success eluded. He provided an example of grace throughout.
The greatest love of his life was Brenda. They were married in Corpus Christi, TX, on December 10, 1973. The honeymoon never ended. They walked through life together in mutual support. They were patient with each other. They sacrificed together, and provided a home overflowing with love and joy. They welcomed their offspring's friends into their home as though they were adopting them.
Through their lives they were examples of love, great parenting, fierce advocacy and a faithful walk with God. The last memory of Charlie Wysong will be of a faithful servant of God who has been called home. He will be missed by a multitude of grandchildren, his children, and most of all his wife.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Whittle Wysong, his siblings, Harvey, Gordon, Holley; children and their spouses, Seth, John (Amy), Rebekah (Jason), Nathan (Melissa), Samuel (Sally), Joshua (Donna), Sarah (Steve), Daniel (Lea), Paul (Emily), Philip (Becca), Matthew (Margaux), Hannah (Jeff), Stephen (Ren), Michael (Haley) and Abigail (Nolan). He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family. He is missed and loved by all of them.
Funeral services for Charles will be held 11 am on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Hickory Valley Baptist Church, Chattanooga, TN with Dr. David Kemp and Pastor Eddie Killian officiating. He will be laid to rest in Lakewood Memory Gardens East in Chattanooga, TN.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road Chapel, Chattanooga, TN.
