Charlie Riddick Obituary

Published by Chapel Memorial Funeral Home - Waterbury on Apr. 1, 2019.
Mr. Charlie "Charles" M. Riddick Sr., 63 of Torrington, formerly of Waterbury, passed away unexpectedly, Monday, April 1, 2019. He was the husband of Oletha (Clayborn) Riddick for 31 years. They were married on April 1, 1988. Mr. Riddick was born August 23, 1955 in Gates County, North Carolina a son to the late William Wiggins and Mildred E. Riddick. Charles as he was called by all was educated in the North Carolina public school system where he graduated from Gates County High School. After relocating to Connecticut where he resided until his passing, Charles owned and operated Chuck's Parking in Waterbury for 21 years. He had also been employed by Becton and Dickinson's and most recently Connecticut Transportation Solutions where he worked until his passing. Charlie loved his wife, children and his family. In his free time he enjoyed fishing, watching football and basketball. He enjoyed family gatherings where he could show off his barbecuing skills and his "beans and cheese". He didn't dislike to many things but he did truly dislike telemarketers. Charlie spent his last days reaching out to sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews that he recently found. He was so happy that he had the opportunity to begin building long overdue relationships with them all. He was a strong, loving, patient, caring, sensible, rational man, but all bets were off when it came to protecting his wife, children and family. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Besides his wife Oletha of 31 years, he leaves to cherish his memory three children; Shyiesha M. Riddick, Charlie M. Riddick Jr., and Charlene M. Riddick all of Torrington, brothers; Benjamin Riddick, Willie Riddick, Blaine Riddick, sisters; Martha Lamison, Debra Riddick, Ella Alston and Michelle Riddick; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, extended family and a host of friends. He was predeceased by sisters Bertha Riddick, Betty Riddick, Virginia Harris, brothers Anthony Riddick, Leroy Riddick and Ray Riddick.

So very sorry to learn of Charles's passing. I parked in his lot for many years. He was always kind and shared his huge smile! He was a wonderful ambassador for downtown Waterbury! He knew everyone and everyone knew him! Charles had a unique way to make everyone's day brighter. He was extremely proud of his wife and family. I am lucky to have known him.
Please know that you will all be in my prayers.
