Burial will be in the Union Cemetery in Humboldt. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 PM on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at Oakcrest Funeral Services in Algona.
Memorials can be made in her name to the Algona Senior Center.
Charlotte Esther (Hanson) Carson was born on February 16, 1934, at the family home near Bode, Iowa, to Mandius and Johanna (Torkelson) Hanson. She was the seventh child of 10. Charlotte was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She graduated from Bode High School in 1952.
In the spring of 1953, she married Eugene Haack. To this union were born six children: Gloria Jean, Dianne Lynn, Harold Lee, Carol Ann, Brenda Kay, and Linda Marie. During the early years of her marriage to Eugene she was busy raising her children and working for Haack Diesel in Des Moines. The couple divorced in 1970.
On July 10, 1982, she married James William Carson at the First Lutheran Church in Algona. With this marriage, she gained a stepdaughter, Carla Marie.
During her working career she was employed at Berkley's in Emmetsburg and then at Snap-on in Algona where she retired in August 1997, after 20 years.
In the following years she traveled a great deal visiting family and friends all around the country. She was not one to miss a loved one's celebration or milestone. In 1993, she made a special trip to Norway and Scandinavia with family to visit her Norwegian cousins.
After her husband, Jim, passed away in December 2012, she sold her family home and moved to Algona. She wasted no time integrating into her new community and finding meaningful friendships volunteering at the local senior center.
Charlotte spent her days visiting friends, was always up for a cup of coffee or ready for any outing at the drop of a hat. She enjoyed spending time with the great-grandchildren by baking cookies and playing card games. She will be remembered by her infectious laugh, love of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and her countless friends. No one was a stranger, just a friend she had not yet met.
Charlotte died Thursday, December 22, 2022, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona, Iowa, at the age of 88.
She is survived by her children, Gloria (Kim) Alexander, Austin, TX; Dianne (Kenny) Stinehart, Spencer, IA; Harold (Jeanine) Haack, Algona, IA; Carol (Randy) Holmes, Algona, IA; Brenda (Gary) Stille, Storm Lake, IA; Linda Richmond (Don Phillips), Beloit, WI. Stepdaughter Carla (Kevin) Holzworth, Monroe, OR; 20 grandchildren, and 33 great-grandchildren; one sister, Marie Volentine. Sisters-in-law, Karla (Clarence) Hanson and Mary (Edward) Hanson. Brother-in-law, Kenneth (Clara) Teeter, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim, in December of 2012, and grandson Joshua in February of 2017; siblings, Jeannette (Merle) Carlson, Orville (Shirley) Hanson, Arlene (Jim) Blumer, John (Marion) Hanson, Clarence Hanson, Merle (JoAnn) Hanson, Clara Teeter, and Edward Hanson.
