Charlotte Arlene Butts Jordan was born on November 10, 1954 at Russell Medical Center in Alexander City, AL. and went to her eternal home on September 2, 2025. Funeral services will be Saturday, September 6, 2025 beginning at 3:00 PM at Mount Gilead Community Church with Bro. Mike Hanners, Bro. Jimmy Brand and Bro. Joseph Halsey officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Methodist Church Cemetery in Wadley.
Charlotte was the shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her journey here on earth was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God. A void is left in the hearts of her family, friends, and others whose lives were touched in some way by her. We ask that you not remember her by the way her life ended, but for the way it was lived and the profound impact it made on others.
Charlotte married the love of her life on June 14, 1974 not only gaining a husband (James) but a 4 year old son (Jimmy) as well. Charlotte and James had another son Jonathan (affectionately called Tadpole) in 1977. Charlotte and James lived in Goldville AL until 1995 when they moved to Wadley and resided at the time of her death.
Charlotte began experiencing health issues around this time but pushed herself to keep going.
She was a member of Mt Gilead Church where she faithfully attended from 1995 after her move to Wadley, until she couldn't travel due to declining health. Charlotte taught Sunday School at times and worked on different committees. She enjoyed singing. Charlotte's faith was strong and she continued her bible studies and kept a prayer list so she could pray for others daily.
She was an avid football fan and loved cheering on her favorite team the Alabama Crimson Tide. She enjoyed attending games with her family when she could and was always ready to talk football to others too.
Charlotte enjoyed going to class reunions and reminiscing with her classmates. She enjoyed canning and putting up food from the garden. She also enjoyed cruises going to the Bahamas twice and girl trips with her sisters and close friends.
She worked at various sewing plants in New Site and Ashland but worked the longest at Avondale Mills in Alexander City. She met many friends through her jobs and still kept in touch with them when she could. Charlotte and James often went on yearly family vacations at Camp Helen in Florida making many memories there over the years.
Charlotte may not be here but there are so many memories and stories that remain with us that will never be forgotten.
Charlotte is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, James Jordan 2 sons Jimmy (Bobbie Jean) Jordan and Jonathan (Julie) Jordan; 2 grandchildren Colt Jordan and Marlie Jordan; and 2 sisters Shelia (Jerry) Hodge and Freda (Mark) Jorgensen and two nephews Kevin Butts and Devon Moreland.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Ellie Ree Butts and a brother
Lawrence Butts.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Linda Nix Jones for being her prayer partner and for reading her bible studies to her when Charlotte couldn't, even the last few days of her life. The family would also like to extend a special thanks to Joyce Heard, one of her caretakers, who went the extra mile for her and the neighbors who came and visited her. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her. Those who knew Charlotte knew she loved the Lord and encouraged others to know him too. Some of her favorite things to do was to talk about scripture and lead others to know Christ.
Visitation will be before the service on Saturday from 1:30 until 3:00 when service will start.
