Funeral Services for Mr. David L. McVey, age 62 of Cragford, will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville at 3:00 P.M. with Bro. Phillip McVey and Bro. David Waldrop officiating. Burial with military honors will be held on the Clay County Memory Gardens.

Mr. McVey passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at his home. He was born and raised in Ashland, attended Bibb Graves Elementary and Mellow Valley High School. While in High School, he left to join the Army National Guard, there in which he was able to travel to several states and other countries while serving. He retired after 22 years, ending with the rank of SSG. Upon his retirement, He was a truck driver for several companies, but most recently worked for the Randolph County Road Department as an equipment operator for the last 12 years. Mr. McVey also served with the Clay County Sheriffs Reserve and helped with the Clay County Rescue Squad. Mr. McVey enjoyed spending time with his sons hunting and fishing, hanging out with his grandchildren, and tinkering or fixing machines in his spare time. He was straight forward and direct, but would do anything for his family and friends.

Mr. McVey is survived by his wife of 24 years, Sharon A. McVey of Cragford; two sons: Ashley McVey (Ashley) of Talladega and Dusty Lynn McVey of Mellow Valley; his step son, John F. Mayer II (Tonya) of Birmingham; grandchildren: Lyra Driggers, Madison McVey, Ava McVey, John "Trey" Mayer III, Charles William Mayer, and Lydia Michelle Mayer; his sister, Lisa Waldrop (Felix) of Lineville; and his brother, Phillip McVey (Tracy) of Opelika, plus several nieces, nephews, and extended family.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Charles Ray and Dorothy Ann East McVey; and two brothers: Michael Ray McVey and Charles Franklin McVey.

Active Pallbearers will be Felix Ackles, Stanley McVay, John F. Mayer II, Julian Gortney, Eddie Burke, and Henry Lambert.

His visitation will take place on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville beginning at 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.

The family requests no flowers. Instead, they would prefer donations be made in Mr. McVey's honor to The Wounded Warrior Project: www.woundedwarriorproject.org. or to the National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention: www.Theactionallicance.org/donate
