Donald Lee McVey, 72, of Cambridge, Ohio, formerly of Nelsonville, passed away on Friday, October 3, 2025, at the Kobacker House in Columbus. Don was born on February 20, 1953, in Syracuse, New York, the son of the late Donald Lee McVey Sr. and Barbara Brennan. He was married to Beverly Koval McVey who survives.
Don retired from the U.S. Navy after a combined 22 years of military service with the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army. Many of his years of service were during the Vietnam War. Don was a member of the Zanesville American Legion and Eagles, the Cambridge V.F.W. and Moose Lodge, and was formerly a member of the Nelsonville V.F.W. and Athens American Legion. He was also a member of Grace Christian Center in Athens.
Don is survived by his wife, Beverly; son, Paul (Elizabeth) McVey; daughters, Angie (Scott) Colgan and Crystal (Bill) Kaden; step daughter, Angela (John) Baltzer; grandchildren, Andrew Lee Colgan, Jessica Lynn Colgan, and Catelyn Baltzer; sister, Dawn Longstaff; niece, Debbie (Joe) Shaffer; great niece, Christina Taddeo; and his beloved dog, Annie, who will miss him very much.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Grace Elizabeth (Savage) McVey.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Friday, October 10, 2025, at the Souers Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St, Nelsonville with Pastor Leon Forte officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville with military honors by the U.S. Navy and the Combined Color Guard. Family and friends may visit Friday from 10 to 11 am at the funeral home.
