Dorothy Gore McVey
Saturday, August 15, 1931 – Tuesday, February 25, 2025
Dorothy "Dot" Gore McVey, a cherished matriarch and beacon of warmth in her community, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2025, at her residence in McRae, Georgia. Born on August 15, 1931, in Liberty, South Carolina, Dot's life was a testament to the enduring power of love, family, and service.
Dot was the beloved wife of the late Charles H. McVey, Sr., and the loving mother to Charlene Holland (Don) of McRae, the late Donny McVey, Sr. (Elaine) of McRae, Charles McVey (Jane) of Cordele, and Lisa Jarrard (Eric) of McRae. Her life was blessed with the joy of her grandchildren, Chris Holland (Tracy), Jason Holland (Melissa), Jodi Batchelor (Michael), Wesley McVey (Tiffany), Matthew McVey (Jessie), Megan Ragan (Darrell), Sam Jarrard (Jessie), Mauri Jarrard, and Charlie Jarrard. Dot's most cherished title was "MeMa" to her 26 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense pride and happiness. She is also survived by her sisters, Dale Puckett of Milan and Sandra Purvis (Hugh) of Manning, South Carolina, and cousin/sister, Ann Batchelor of McRae, who will remember her fondly for her unwavering support and love.
Preceding her in death were her beloved husband, Charles H. McVey, Sr, her cherished son, Donny McVey Sr.; her adored grandchildren, Cassi McVey Hart and Donny McVey, Jr.; her parents, Jim Ed & Ruth Taylor Gore and Nettie Gore; and her siblings, Junior Gore, Johnny Gore, and Sonja Gore Best.
Her life was one of unwavering dedication to her family. As a homemaker, she created a home filled with love, laughter, and the aroma of her famous Southern cooking. Her doors were always open, and her kitchen table was the gathering place for countless family discussions, celebrations, and the sharing of wisdom that only a life well-lived can impart.
Dot, a friend to many, was known for her kindness and willingness to lend a helping hand whenever needed. Her presence will be deeply missed by those who knew her, and her influence will continue to be felt by those who were touched by her generous spirit.
Dot's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with threads of devotion, resilience, and grace. She faced life's challenges with strength and always managed to find joy in the simple pleasures. Her laughter was infectious, her advice was sought after, and her love was unconditional. She was a guiding light to her family, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of those she loved.
As we bid farewell to Dorothy "Dot" Gore McVey, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a journey completed with dignity and love. She was a treasure to her family, a pillar in her community, and an example of the best of us. Her memory will be cherished, and her spirit will continue to inspire us all.
A funeral service to honor her memory and celebrate her life will be held on Friday, February 28 at 2:00 PM at the Chapel of Lowes Funeral Home with Eric Jarrard officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 27 from 6 PM – 8 PM at Lowes Funeral Home.
