SIMMONS, Charlotte (Sonenklar) Age 98, died peacefully on March 30, 2022, at Beverly Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Charlotte was the daughter of the late Jacob Sonenklar and Pearl Weintraub of Detroit, MI. She was the wife of the late Ozzie Gordon Simmons, a former World War II officer, university professor, and program manager for the Ford Foundation. Charlotte was devoted to the arts, including the opera, symphony, and ballet. She loved plants and volunteered for years at the New York Botanical Garden in the Orchid House, raising orchids herself until her early nineties. Charlotte is survived by three daughters, Gregor Simmons of New York, NY, Lauren White and her husband David, of Beaufort, SC, and Paula Simmons and her husband William Sills, of Lake Chapala, Mexico; two grandchildren, Rebecca Schaeffer and John Schaeffer of Salisbury, and Alexander White and his wife Alexandria Rosa of Los Angeles, California; three great-grandchildren, Lucy, Jack, and Eleanor Schaeffer of Salisbury; several nieces and nephews, and many grand and great-grandnieces and nephews. Charlotte was predeceased by her brothers, Jerome Sonenklar and Solomon Sonenklar, and her sister, Clare Tucker. Services will be held privately.
