Charlotte J. Skou

Charlotte J. Skou, age 88, of Ankeny, Iowa died July 7, 2025 at UnityPoint Hospice Taylor House in Des Moines, Iowa.
Funeral services will take place Monday, July 14, 2025 with Visitation at 10:00 a.m. followed by Service at 11:00 a.m. at First Church of Christ in Ankeny, Iowa. Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 15, 2025 from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in SCHALLER. Burial will follow at 12:00 p.m. at Galva Township East Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Heart Association at https://www.heart.org. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller is in charge of the arrangements.
Charlotte JoAnn Skou was born July 8, 1936 in Correctionville, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Nora (Chase) Small. She grew up in Washta helping to attend to her younger brother and sister after the tragic loss of her mother when she was ten years old. She later graduated from Washta School in 1954 where Charlotte loved to play basketball and played on the Washta High School team.
On August 1, 1954, Charlotte was united in marriage to Robert Charles Skou in Galva, Iowa at the United Methodist Church. Robert, who was an active service member in the US Army, was transferred to different bases throughout the time he served. As such they had short stints in California, Louisiana and Kansas.
Charlotte worked in retail sporting goods and shoe sales for many years. In her free time, she enjoyed attending a weekly bible study class and other study programs at her church. Most of all Charlotte loved spending time with her four grandsons and later her two great granddaughters. Her faith in Christ and her family were the most important parts of her life. Charlotte and Robert rededicated themselves through baptism in July of 2014.
She also enjoyed attending or watching basketball and girls' softball games. The void left behind by Charlotte will be difficult to fill and she will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.
Left to cherish Charlotte's memory include her son: Dennis Skou of Altoona, IA; sister: Sharon Schmidt; grandsons: Joshua Skou of Carter Lake, IA; Caleb Skou of Council Bluffs, IA; Zachariah Skou of Council Bluffs, IA; Jacob Skou of Humble, TX; extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her daughter: Juanita Jane Skou; husband: Robert Skou; parents: Albert and Nora Small; and brother: Bobbie Small.
