Charlotte Rutherford Carver Weaver, 92, departed this earthly life on Friday, November 22, 2024 at Compass Healthcare after two years of failing health. She was born on May 22, 1932 in Newhall, WV to the late Lonnie Rutherford and Rose Nell Stevenson Rutherford Viney Sierra. Charlotte was the wife to the late Algie “Al” Talmage Carver who died in 1975 and the late Gordon Wesley Weaver who died in 2014.
In her earlier years, Charlotte was a beautician. She retired after 20 years of service at Southern Bell (Bell South) as a telephone operator. Charlotte and her late husband, Gordon were past faithful members of Andrews Memorial Baptist Church where they became caretakers of the new Deer Lake Camp Facility. They moved back to the Virginia Mountains where Charlotte was raised, and joined Summit Baptist Church. She enjoyed traveling in their motor-home and attending old fashioned Gospel Camp Meetings in Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia. They moved back to North Carolina after 15 happy years in the mountains and moved their membership to Eastside Baptist Church of Mebane, where Charlotte was still a member.
Charlotte is survived by her son, Andy Van Carver and wife Laura; grandchildren, Seth Carver and wife Megan, Jackson Carver and wife Jasmine, Ashley Witherspoon and husband Jay, and Phillip Boswell and wife Kelly; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; sisters, Lessie, Faye, Polly, Betty, Mary Etta and Lonnie; and a brother, Jack Rutherford.
Charlotte was a mountain girl, born in the Great Depression. A survivor of hardship, she developed a toughness that remained with her for a lifetime. Charlotte was a great Mom, a cook and housekeeper who liked to dress pretty, but most of all she loved the Lord, her Savior.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Charlotte’s loving companion, Jessie Raines and his family, who were such a blessing in the final years of her life.
The funeral service to celebrate the life of Charlotte will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Chuck Perkins. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm to 1:45pm Wednesday prior to the service. The burial will be private at Alamance Memorial Park.
