Charon Ann Bappert of Ottawa, IL, passed away on Wednesday, October 8th, 2025, at the age of 63, at Arc at Streator Nursing Home in Streator, IL, in the company of her daughter. Charon was the youngest of eight children, born in Chicago, IL, on December 9th, 1961, to Donald and Charlotte (Mundt) Nielsen.
Charon looked forward to gatherings with family and friends, her pineapple stuffing was a staple at holiday meals. She will be remembered for her genuine smile, sweet disposition, and loving manner. Everyone who knew her was graced with her kindness, often regarded as sweet and creative; she enjoyed making personal gifts for loved ones. Her warm heart and creative spirit touched the lives of many, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
She is survived by her children, Christian Wigsmoen, Heather (Nelson Rodriguez) Wigsmoen, David (Tanya) Bappert, and Alex Bappert; her grandchildren, Alexis, CJ, Tabitha, Damien, James, and Aurora; her great-grandson, Kailiel; her siblings, Diane Gross, Donna Iniguez, Connie (Tom) Racke, and Debra Leone; former spouse Martin Bappert, and numerous extended family members.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Charlotte; her siblings, Dale Hildebrand, Curt Nielsen, and Don Nielsen; nephews Jeffrey Iniguez, Donnie Nielsen, and Joshua Iniguez.
Memorial contributions in Charon's honor may be directed to the family.
A visitation will be held on Friday, October 17, from 1:00pm until 3:00pm at Ottawa Funeral Home. A funeral ceremony will follow at 3:00pm, with Pastor Bill Clark officiating.
