Cheryl Ann (Davis) Ames, age 72, of Grove City, Ohio, passed away peacefully on July 4th, surrounded by loved ones after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on December 22, 1952, Cheryl was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and loyal friend. She lived her life with grace, resilience, and a quiet strength that touched the lives of everyone who knew her. Her warmth, compassion, and unwavering support made a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Cheryl is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Ralph “Gene” Ames; her children, Matthew (Ashley) Ames, Allison (Chris) Kemme, and Eric (Deb) Ames; and her grandchildren, Nathan, Addison, Annabelle, Cameron, and Callen. She is also survived by her siblings, Steve (Olivia) Davis, Mike (Ann Marie) Davis, and Susie (Jim) Goudy; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and lifelong friends. Cheryl was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Joseph and Marilyn Davis.
Cheryl found joy in life’s simple and meaningful moments—hosting family dinners filled with laughter, tending to her flower garden with care, and sharing thoughtful words of encouragement that always came just when they were needed most. She had a remarkable way of making people feel valued and heard. Whether it was through a handwritten note, a heartfelt conversation, or simply her calming presence, Cheryl created a sense of home wherever she went.
She was a proud graduate of Franklin Heights High School (Class of 1970) and The Ohio State University (Class of 1974), where she developed a lifelong love for learning. Cheryl spent her career with Southwestern City Schools, where she worked with dedication and compassion, nurturing young minds and making a difference in countless lives. Her commitment to education and her students was a reflection of her deeply held belief in the power of kindness, patience, and the value of every individual.
Beyond her career, Cheryl’s greatest legacy was the love she poured into her family. She was the heart of every celebration, the comfort in times of hardship, and the example of integrity, faith, and strength. Her grandchildren knew her as their biggest cheerleader and softest hug; her children as their greatest teacher and advocate; and her husband as a true partner in life. Cheryl’s legacy will live on not only through the family she raised but also through the lives she quietly touched along the way.
A private family graveside service will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those who wish to honor Cheryl’s memory consider a donation to a cancer research foundation or to a local school program that supports students in need—two causes close to her heart.
Forever in our hearts, Cheryl will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered as a woman who gave so much of herself, and whose spirit continues to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
