Cheryl Ann Bourque Leger, 76, of Lake Charles, passed away peacefully on Sunday June 30, 2024 at a hospice facility with her family at her side.
Cheryl was 1966 graduate of LaGrange High School and attended McNeese State University, followed by a year in St. Louis at the Benedictine Convent. She married in 1971 and became a longtime resident of Baton Rouge, where she worked at the State Library in department for the blind. After becoming a mother, Cheryl stayed at home, and took great pride in not only her home and family, but also homeschooling her daughter. She was a very devoted Catholic and loved attending the Latin Mass.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Gladys Matthews Bourque and a brother, Jim Bourque. She leaves to honor and cherish her memories, her daughter, Monica Leger and husband Michael Brandyberry, Baton Rouge, LA; siblings, Clo Mere, Mary Simon and husband Frank, and Johnny Bourque and wife Elaine, all of Lake Charles; and brother Brad Bourque and wife Sherry of Sour Lake, Texas as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family of the heart.
Visitation will be on Tuesday July 2, 2024 from 10:30 AM until 12:30 PM at Simple Traditions by Johnson Funeral Home, 3448 Fifth Ave., Lake Charles, LA 70601 with a Holy Rosary to begin at 12:30 PM and a Funeral Service to begin at 1:00 PM. Father Sam Bond will officiate. Burial will follow at Grand Lake Community Cemetery.
