Cheryl McAnespie Eatherly, age 76, of Germantown TN, passed away peacefully on June 6th, 2025. Cheryl was a lifelong Memphian, born on December 27th, 1948, to Martha and Edward McAnespie. She was the youngest of three daughters. As a child, she attended Little Flower Catholic School followed by Immaculate Conception High School, where she graduated in 1966. Cheryl earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Memphis State University. There she was Vice President of Pi Beta Phi Sorority, Justice of Student Government, and recognized in the Who's Who Among American Colleges and Universities.
After college Cheryl taught English for the Memphis City Schools before serving as Guidance Counselor at St. Louis Catholic School for 18 memorable years. Always generous with her time, over the years she volunteered as President of the St. Louis Home and School Association and the Christian Brothers High School Parent Association. Cheryl was president of the Pi Beta Phi alumna association, an active member of Madonna Circle and Circle Arts, a founding member of Church of the Holy Spirit where she served as Eucharistic Minister, and, in later years, a volunteer at Kirby Pines Retirement Community.
Cheryl loved art, classic movies, traveling and competitive games. She loved to host family and friends on holidays, special events and frequent casual gatherings. Cheryl was a loyal Memphis Tigers Basketball fan. Her most treasured times were trips with her family, including several to Europe, Disney World, The Don K Ranch in Colorado and in later years, the Florida beaches of Highway 30A.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her father and her son, Charles Wilson (Chad) Eatherly, Jr. She is survived by her mother Martha McAnespie, husband of 54 years, Charles Wilson Eatherly, daughter Christine Eatherly Cassat (Aaron) of Germantown, TN, son Chase Joseph Eatherly (Melissa) of Alexandria, VA and sisters Pat Ann Speltz (Mike) of Germantown and KeKe Payne (Ben) of Memphis. She was "Grammie" to Aaron Thomas Cassat II, Caroline Elizabeth Cassat, Charles Ryan Cassat of Germantown, and William Charles Eatherly and Hudson Edward Eatherly of Alexandria, VA.
Visitation will be held at Church of the Holy Spirit, 2300 Hickory Crest Drive,
Memphis, TN 38119, Thursday June 12th from 5-7pm. The funeral Mass will be at Church of the Holy Spirit Friday June 13th at 10am followed by burial at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Avenue,
