CLIFTON PARK Chester "Chet" Cottrell, 72, passed away after a brief illness on December 17, 2023. Born in Troy he was the son of the late Kenneth and Dorothy Magee Cottrell.
Growing up, Chet was known for his athletic abilities playing baseball. After graduating from Troy High School, he was drafted into the Army and served in Vietnam. When not working, he spent time playing golf, going to baseball games and fishing. He shared a special bond with his grandson, Michael, enjoying these activities.
Chet is survived by his loving wife, Sue, with whom he shared a loving marriage of 34 years. He is survived by his siblings, Jeff Cottrell (late Maryann) of Clifton Park, Kenneth Cottrell (Kathy) of Speigletown, Mary Hopkins (Robert) of Ft. Ann, Philip Cottrell (Beverly), Thomas Cottrell (late Peggy) of Troy, Caroline Coward (Bob) of Virginia, Eloy Cottrell of Speigletown and Susan Judson (Peter) of Ballston Spa. Also surviving are his step sons Jim Theakos of Troy and Jeff Theakos of Cropseyville, grandson Michael as well as many nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday December 27, 2023 at noon at Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte.32), Waterford. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Saratoga National Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with his family at the funeral home on Wednesday Dec. 27 from 10 am till noon, prior to the memorial service.
Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
