Chester W. Downing

Chester Wayne Downing, age 75, of Macks Creek, Missouri passed away on March 28, 2025 at his home. He was born on December 18, 1949 in Camdenton, Missouri; a son of Paul Eugene Downing and Ruth Harvey (Crall) Downing. He was united in marriage to Linda Downing and she preceded him in death in 2017.
Chester grew up and spent his life in the Macks Creek area. He was a US Marine Veteran, proudly serving 4 years as a gunnery sergeant. After returning home, he began working as a Barge Operator and spent more than 35 years working for H & R Dock Service and Ozark Barge and Docks. When he wasn't working enjoyed spending his days outdoors gardening or doing yard work. Chester said for years he had big dreams, like "walking to Montana."
Chester is survived by three sons, Jimmy Downing (Krissy) of Macks Creek, Jeremy Downing of Osage Beach, Justin Downing (Lauren) of Macks Creek; two brothers, Paul Downing (Mary) of Fair Play, Larry Downing of Hermitage; a sister Barbara Downing of Iberia; and 10 grandchildren.
Chester was preceded in death by his wife Linda; his parents Paul and Ruth; a son Jay Paul; brothers Carl, John, Earl, Jerry, Jimmy; and sisters Betty and Donna.
Friends will be received from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at Hedges -Scott-Millard Funeral Home Macks Creek. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at Hedges -Scott-Millard Funeral Home Macks Creek with Lyle Mankey officiating. Burial will follow at the Macks Creek Cemetery with full military honors.
