Chris David Long of Henderson finished his earthly journey on July 1, 2024 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. A family graveside service will be held Wednesday, July 3 at 4 p.m. at Lakewood Memorial Park in Henderson, and a celebration of life memorial service will be held Sunday,July 14 at 3:30 at First Methodist Church of Henderson. Both will be officiated by Rev. Mike Mayhugh of First Methodist Church. A time of visitation with the family will be held after the memorial service.
Chris was born to D.C. and Ruth Long on May 17, 1952 in Dallas and had called Henderson home since 1960. He graduated from Henderson High School in 1970, Kilgore College in 1972 and East Texas State University in 1974, earning a BBA. From childhood Chris loved cars, and could call the makes and year models all his life. With the help of his dad, he started Quality Tire & Auto on Highway 79 and grew that business for many years. It was his great joy to help people with their cars, providing tires and service and later, selling used vehicles at Quality Auto. He loved Henderson, loved his friends and customers and had a great love for his family and his pets. He was a member of First Methodist Church and enjoyed attending when his health allowed. When he was younger he enjoyed boating, water skiing and snow skiing. As his health worsened he lived at Pine Lodge and Brookdale assisted living facilities, and finished his life at Autumn Leaves nursing home with care from Three Oaks Hospice. The family thanks all those who helped care for Chris, especially Lupe Arvizu, who worked for Chris for decades.
Mourning his loss are his sister, Cyndi Walker and husband Johnny of Henderson; step-son Phillip Stanley of Fort Worth (Kaycee) and children Mila and Poppy; nephews and nieces Jared Walker of Henderson and Jonathan Walker (Erin) of Tyler and children John Caleb (Abigail), Caroline and Jason; and Lauren Baker (Brad) of Tyler and children Lilly and London. He was preceded into Heaven by his parents.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to First Methodist Church, 204 N, Marshall St, Henderson 75654; Henderson Interchurch Ministries (HIM), 769 Hwy. 64 W, Henderson 75652 or Rusk County Pets Alive, P.O. Box 106, Henderson, 75653.
