"Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." John 14:27
Christine Harrell Peace, known by her family and special friends as "MeMa"; departed this life on Sunday, September 29, 2024. She was born January 19, 1940 in Nash County to the late Johnnie and Betsy Jackson Harrell. In addition to her parents, Christine was preceded in death by sisters, Nita Harrell, Irene Castro, Helen Raynor and Lula Griffin Tharrington; brothers, Grover, Tommy, Marvin and Bennie Harrell. And several "in-laws".
Christine leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband and partner of 59 years, Doug Peace. Her children: Jim Becknell (Debbie) of Battleboro, Don Becknell (Barbara) of Whitakers, Dougie Peace of the home, and Christy Peace of Spring Hope. Her grandchildren that she loved dearly: Wesley Powell (Tiffany) of Aventon, Dawn Doss (Corey) of Scotland Neck, Donnie Becknell (Francis) of Pinetops, Rebeka Spivey (Wayne) of Pinetops, Heather Becknell (Mike) of Dortches, and Bradley Peace (Lauren) of Bailey. Great grandchildren: Devon, Tyler, Bailey, Tank, Avery, and Tate. Special Daughter Brenda Lynch of Louisburg. And special grandson Mikey Mills of Hollister. There are many nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends that she loved as her own. And, no vacation was complete without Dillon and John in tow.
Christine was employed for several years with Industrial Electric, and for many years with Original Log Cabin homes.
She definitely loved to sit and talk with friends and family. She loved Jesus. And oh how she loved White Lake. We are grateful that she spent a week there, sitting on the porch, drinking her coffee and diet coke, just soaking it all in, about 3 weeks prior to her passing.
There were many people over the years that crossed her path who made a lasting impression on her life, and her families. Family is blood, but so are special bonds. Shelby Joyner and Hilda Howell were definitely her "ride or dies", from the time they were young girls, right up to the end. As were Mike and Jimille Mills. The Peace family and the Mills family shared many memories together.
We want to thank each of you that have called, sent a text, said a prayer, and encouraged us along this path. We truly love and appreciate each one of you.
In lieu of Flowers, we encourage you to consider donating to the Shriners Hospital for Children, the Children's Home of Middlesex, The Salvation Army, your local dog shelter, or a charity of your choosing in her memory.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, October 4, 2024 at Riverbend Church, 9853 E Hwy 97 Rocky Mount, NC 27803 The visitation will be held at 1:00pm prior to the service
