Christopher Ange Obituary

Christopher George Ange, Sr., “George,” passed away on January 29, 2026, at his home in Lake Charles, Louisiana, with his family by his side. Born on September 20, 1961, in Lake Charles, George lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service.

George was the beloved son of Sam and Barbara Calloura Ange, husband of 43 years to Lisa Kohnke Ange, and a devoted father to Michaella Cormier (Allen), Mary Beth Prevost (Josh), Megan Pickle (Evan), and Christopher Ange, Jr. (Averey). He found great joy in his role as “Popsie” to his grandchildren: Tripp, Lucy Beth, and Barrett Cormier; Charley and Joseph Prevost; Lena, Tony, and Nora Pickle; and Martin Ange. He is also survived by his siblings, Sam Ange, Jr. (Evette), LaDonna Caraway (Bubba), Michael Ange (Denise), and Maria Richard (Mickey).

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joe and Sylvia Calloura and George and Florence Ange; his father-in-law, Red Kohnke; and his beloved grandson, Tony Pickle.

A graduate of St. Louis Catholic High School, Class of 1980, George went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Human Performance from McNeese State University in 1985. He was a Louisiana State Licensed Athletic Trainer and dedicated his professional life to caring for others. George served as a teacher, coach, and athletic trainer at St. Louis Catholic High School and later spent 21 years as Director of Sports Medicine at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, from 1991 until 2013. In recognition of his lasting impact on athletes across the region, he was inducted into the Louisiana Athletic Trainer Hall of Fame in 2010. George truly loved his work. Through his years of service, he touched the lives of thousands of area athletes, helping them heal, regain confidence, and return to the fields and courts they loved.

A faithful member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, George also enjoyed the fellowship of the Krewe du Lac for more than 30 years, serving as Duke Andrew in 1991. Outside of work, he found peace and challenge in distance running, proudly participating in the Crescent City Classic in New Orleans from 2000 to 2018. He also enjoyed duck hunting, taught by his father-in-law, Red Kohnke, saltwater fishing, and following all sports, especially football, baseball, and track & field.

George will be remembered for his steady presence, generous heart, and the consistent way he showed up for others, day after day. His children and grandchildren lovingly recall a phrase he often shared, words that now echo as part of his legacy: “Ya gotta be quick!”

Pallbearers will be Sammy Ange, Michael Ange, Bubba Caraway, Mickey Richard, Buddy Kohnke, Van Richmond, Doc Murphy, Shannon Allison, and Jamey Rasberry.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 PM on Monday, February 2, 2026, at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 3939 Lake Street. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Visitation will be held at the church from 11:00 AM until Mass time, with a rosary to be recited at 12:30 PM.
